Built on Experience: The Peak Outdoors Story

How years of trailer manufacturing experience led the Wheeler family to create Peak Outdoors—a company focused on durable custom camps and personal service.

Peak Outdoors is a family-owned trailer manufacturer in Spring City, Utah. The company grew from years of hands-on trailer manufacturing experience and a shared belief that customers deserve well-built camps, honest value, and personal service.

Our story is about learning the work, improving the process, and eventually choosing to build trailers under our own name.

Learning the Work

In 2006, Mike Wheeler was hired by Mickel Sheep Company to oversee production of its range camps. He organized the manufacturing process, sourced materials, and brought together the people needed to keep production moving.

The improvements made a clear difference. Camps that had taken two or three months to produce could be completed in a matter of weeks. The process became more efficient while maintaining the quality required of a working trailer.

Later that year, Mike became the company’s general manager. He remained in that role until 2017.

Building Experience Together

Weston and Kyler later joined the business. They gained experience in trailer design, construction, production, and customer needs. They also brought new ideas to the shop and continued refining the way the trailers were built.

The family combined practical manufacturing knowledge with professional training. RV service certifications, computer-aided design, and computer-aided manufacturing helped the team plan more accurately and solve problems earlier in each build.

Technology improved precision, but it did not replace hands-on craftsmanship. Both remain important to the way Peak Outdoors works today.

Starting Peak Outdoors

By 2016, the future of the company where the family worked had become uncertain. Mike, Weston, and Kyler had contributed to management, design, sales, manufacturing, and years of strong growth. They were proud of that work, but they wanted to take trailer design and customer service in a different direction.

In early 2017, Mike, Weston, Kyler, and Dave decided to start Peak Outdoors.

The goal was straightforward: build high-quality custom camps at a fair value and work directly with the people who would own them. Being family-owned gave the team the freedom to make decisions around the customer instead of forcing every project into the same standard plan.

A Better Way to Build

Every owner uses a camp differently. Some need a dependable trailer for agricultural work. Others want a four-season base for hunting, camping, travel, or extended time away from established campgrounds.

Peak begins by understanding that intended use. The frame, floor plan, storage, insulation, utilities, appliances, and equipment should work together. A feature only adds value when it supports the owner’s real needs.

Our manufacturing background also taught us to respect proven trailer designs. Traditional sheep and range camps are durable because they were developed for demanding work. Peak carries those lessons forward while adding the space, comfort, and systems modern owners expect.

What Family-Owned Means

At Peak Outdoors, the owners remain involved in the business. Customers can speak with people who understand the design, know how the trailer is built, and will still be available after delivery.

That direct relationship matters. A custom camp often begins as a list of needs, a rough idea, or a problem that another trailer could not solve. Our job is to listen carefully and turn that information into a practical design.

It also makes delivery day personal. We get to see a project move from the first conversation to a finished camp that will support someone’s work, travel, family time, or outdoor traditions.

Built for Long-Term Value

Long-term value comes from the entire trailer, not one visible feature. Materials, structure, systems, workmanship, inspections, and future service all matter.

Quality checks take place throughout production. The completed camp receives a final inspection, and the customer has the opportunity to review the trailer before taking it home.

We want every owner to understand the camp, feel confident using it, and know who stands behind it.

Continuing the Story

Peak Outdoors was created from manufacturing experience, family collaboration, and the desire to build trailers differently. Our equipment and designs continue to improve, but the purpose of the company has not changed.

We build custom camps for real people and real conditions. We value clear communication, careful work, and relationships that continue after the sale.

We are grateful to every customer who has trusted our family with a project. We would be honored to help build a camp that becomes part of your story.
